Metron Smart SolutionsAdvanced technology division

Custom electronics, embedded firmware and industrial IoT, engineered end to end.

The advanced technology vertical of Metron Engineering — taking projects from concept and sensor integration through PCB layout, firmware and production handoff, with Australian oversight and complete client IP ownership.

Smart Solutions: electronics & firmware

Three disciplines, one integrated delivery team.

Metron Smart Solutions is the electronics and firmware team of Metron Engineering. The team brings more than 15 years of combined experience in end-to-end product development and manufacturing, including medical device development.

01

Electronics & PCB Design

  • Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout in Altium
  • Component and IC selection with documented reasoning
  • Routing, signal integrity and EMI/ESD practice
  • Design for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • RF and BLE antenna, dense and multi-board designs
  • Fabrication packages: Gerber, NC drill, CPL, BOM, assembly drawing, 3D STEP model, fab notes
02

Embedded Firmware

  • Embedded C/C++ firmware for ESP32 and Microchip AVR microcontrollers
  • Layered architectures, from hardware abstraction to application, on RTOS, state machine or interrupt-driven designs
  • BLE, Wi-Fi, MQTT, USB, Ethernet and Modbus connectivity, plus custom protocols with error checking
  • Bootloaders, over-the-air updates and on-device data storage
  • Sensor interfacing, calibration and data acquisition
  • Safety self-diagnostics and code-coverage testing for production releases
  • Code review and fault-finding on existing firmware
03

Rapid Prototyping for Custom Electronics

  • Custom electronics taken from an idea or sketch to a working prototype on the bench
  • Unproven concepts tested early with breadboard and development-kit builds, before committing to a board
  • Proven circuits moved onto custom PCBs designed for fabrication and assembly
  • Hardware, firmware and connectivity developed together, so the prototype works as a system
  • Companion apps, PC tools and interface prototypes built alongside the hardware for testing and demonstration
  • Prototypes designed with manufacture in mind, so the step to production is a revision and not a redesign
Development discipline

Electronic product development demands documented design decisions and verification against written criteria. The team applies that discipline to every board and firmware build: component choices are recorded with their reasoning, designs are reviewed before fabrication, boards are issued with 3D STEP models for enclosure fit, and each release is demonstrated on the target hardware.

Smart Solutions: defined services

Six services, two for each capability. Each has a defined deliverable, a fixed scope and written acceptance criteria agreed before work starts.

01Electronics & PCB Design
3 working days

Pre-Fab Design Review

An annotated review of your schematic and layout before you pay for fabrication. Every finding is ranked critical, major or minor with a recommended fix, followed by a go or no-go. One re-check of the corrected design is included.

02Embedded Firmware
2 to 4 weeks

Board Bring-Up & Validation Tooling

Low-level bring-up code verifying power, clocks, memory and peripherals, plus a PC or Android test tool that reports pass or fail against your manufacturing criteria.

03Product Development
5 to 10 working days

Idea-to-POC Sprint

A working bench proof of concept for the one core function you need proven, with a written feasibility verdict, component selection, test results against your success criteria, schematics and code.

04Electronics & PCB Design
From 5 working days

Breadboard to Board

Your working breadboard turned into a fabrication-ready board. Altium project, fabrication files, BOM, assembly drawing, 3D STEP model and fab notes, DRC-clean against your named fabricator's rules.

05Embedded Firmware
6 to 12 weeks

Concept-to-Production Firmware

Complete, layered firmware for hardware you already have: hardware abstraction, diagnostics, device control and application layers. Delivered in milestones and tested on the target hardware.

06Product Development
4 to 8 weeks

Concept-to-Prototype System Design

One team for the whole system: architecture, fabrication-ready PCBs, firmware for the agreed core features, connectivity, a Figma interface prototype and a demonstrated working prototype. Delivered in milestones.

Smart Solutions: how an engagement runs

Electronics work follows the same five delivery stages as our engineering work, with the commercial terms fixed at the start.

Scope Fixed First

A short scoping call defines the question to be answered or the features to be delivered. Scope, timeline and acceptance criteria are agreed in writing before work starts.

Acceptance Criteria

Each service is accepted against written criteria, for example DRC-clean files, nets and pins matched to the proof of concept, or agreed functions demonstrated on the target hardware.

Ownership

Design ownership transfers to the client on final payment: schematics, PCB source, firmware source and production files.

Revisions

One revision round is included in each service, or one per milestone on staged work. Design errors on our side are corrected at no charge.

Scope Boundaries

EMC and certification testing, cloud back ends, production mobile app builds and mass production are outside these services. Boards are designed with EMI/ESD and manufacturability in mind, and compliance testing is carried out by accredited third-party laboratories.

What we need from you
  • Schematics, layout or source code where they exist
  • A description of what the product does
  • Target specifications or success criteria
  • Size, power and budget constraints
  • Your preferred fabricator
  • A named contact for decisions
